All the news about Reducing National Monuments reminds me of The Carrizo Plain National Monument in Central California near almost nothing. Well, it is located between Maricopa and San Luis Obispo. Not exactly the end of the Earth, but my first visit prompted the question, “why is this a National Monument?”
This photo is a reminder that cattle once grazed on the sparse vegetation of Carrizo Plain, but now the ranches are all gone.
The USA and Canada contain so much barren land that could support a billion people. I wonder why so much is being spent on exploration of Mars and even preparing to send prople there. So many other human needs could be met with funds wasted on Mars and other planets.
